Aruba Boosted by Switch to Electronic Records

by on August 20, 2010
Aruba Networks (ARUN) is benefiting from the push by hospitals to switch to electronic record keeping that allows health care staff to instantly find a patient’s medical history, prescriptions and more to help them provide better care, according to Investor’s Business Daily.

Aruba now has 10,000 customers worldwide, including a hospital group in New Hampshire that is using the company’s services to set up a new wireless network that lets doctors access patient records on their mobile devices while making rounds, IBD reported.

Institutions that have an ever-moving staff, like hospitals and colleges, were the first to adopt wireless local area networks, or WLANs, like the ones Aruba provides, according to IBD. In the past, the WLANs were a supplement to the wired LAN since the wires could handle more data.

But the New Hampshire hospital group is using a new standard that was formally ratified last year and has a capacity that can compete with wired infrastructure, IBD reported.

With these new installations, analysts expect Aruba’s growth to continue, with a 250% jump in profit this year, according to IBD. Aruba is a Cabot Top Ten Weekly stock.
